lasting impressions weddings is an award-winning minnesota wedding planning and design company

It’s Spring and wedding season is upon us (Or hopefully coming soon!!!!) I wanted to share one of the most fun weddings I planned last year! Jennifer and Kyle’s Summer Interlachen Country Club wedding!!! Jen and Kyle started planning what would have been a pretty “traditional wedding” and then I got the call one day from Jen asking what my thoughts were on a little bit more of an unconventional wedding. She wanted to have a smaller ceremony that included just family and close friends and then she wanted to have a really fun wedding reception at Interlachen Country Club.  I loved the idea and I love the idea of doing anything different!!!

Unique elements that we included were different sized tables throughout the reception to give more of a cocktail reception flow. AMPLE food stations including a raw bar, sliders, and fries, a chef created pasta station, tons of different desserts and SO much more!!! As the guests were bouncing between stations they were entertained by Rocket Man Dueling Pianos, which was a great touch for another unique element!

To say the last week has been a whirlwind or a nightmare would be an understatement! A week ago we knew that COVID-19 was going to impact  our  lives, but never did I imagine a week later that we would have had to postpone/cancel 6 weddings for April and early May!!

There have been TONS of resources that have been developed in the last month to assist vendors and couples navigate these unfamiliar waters of moving dates around, etc. One thing I wanted to quickly address is what is the best way to let your guests know that you are moving your wedding date when the invitations have went out.

I asked my friends over at Paper Rock Scissors on what they recommended and here is what Liz had to say.

Your website needs to act as the best friend in this situation… just keeping that home page as the hub of the latest information for those guests who are wondering what is happening with these events.

The actual announcement itself could be a simple email out to your guests, a designed email that you send out to your guests or a 2nd mailing that could be sent out to guests.”

Fall can be a tough time to plan a wedding. The weather is unpredictable, the temps can drop fast and the rain can pop up at any minute. That is just what happened on Jessica and Brian’s wedding day!!! For 12 months leading up to the big wedding day we had planned every detail for a beautiful fall barn wedding. What you do not know from the photos is that it was COLD and rainy most of the wedding day and the beautiful barn was simply our backup plan for an outdoor ceremony! Luckily for us, the backup barn location was AMAZING and could have easily passed as the original wedding location.

Jessica grew up in the Waconia area and she worked really hard to keep as much of the vendors local to the area. This was really fun for me as a planner because I was meeting lots of new and very talented vendors! This was our first wedding at Sovereign Estate Winery.  Having a wedding reception in the middle of a vineyard in the fall set the mood for a fun night!!

The caterers, L and L Catering, are long time friends of the family and they outstanding!! The grazing board still leaves me drooling. After guests got their fill of meats and cheeses they had ample food station options! The florist, Sailer’s Greenhouse, is owned by one of the bride’s best friends. Luckily for me I have been able to work with Nikki a few times at other weddings. She has an incredible eye and transformed the large reception space with pops of fall foliage and colors!

Contagious… That is what I think of when I think of Meghan, AJ and the whole McNamara Family.. That may seem like a funny word to think of, but when you look at these photos how can you not smile? The love and the infectious smiles are so contagious when you meet this wonderful couple and family!!!!!

The first time I met with Meghan and her wonderful mom, Amy.. We talked.. and talked.. and talked about life, the engagement and about the wedding. It became clear after that meeting that I met two people that have as much energy as me and can talk as much as I can 🙂 I felt an immediate connection with them and throughout the whole planning process we just had a lot of fun!! I loved that Meghan had such a clear idea of what she wanted for her wedding day.. but at the same time.. she went along with lots of my crazy ideas!!  Thank you for trusting me and seeing the vision in my little sketches I would send you.. Blondes must think alike 🙂

You’ve celebrated your engagement and the planning is just beginning and now is the time to get your guests in the loop by sending them wedding save the dates. This pre-invitation officially announces your wedding date and lets guests know that they will, in fact, be invited to the celebration. While your local stationery designer can certainly help design these I usually recommend for my couples to design these online!!

One of my favorite Wedding save the date companies is Basic Invite They offer a large selection of unique save the dates to let your guests know about your wedding! They offer Foil save the Dates, Save the date magnets, Postcard save the dates. If you already know your design, it’s so easy to pick a Save the Date that coordinates with your wedding invitations.

Jamie and Tim’s wedding was the perfect kick-off to fall!!! This Fall wedding color palette was full of burgandys, greens, Navy and all of the colors that make me want to cuddle up with a blanket and a book!! The only thing that did not feel like fall was the actual weather!!! This October wedding was the first snowfall of the year and we all had a big laugh! Jamie is from Texas and a large part of our wedding guests had traveled in from all over the world… and Minnesota greeted them with the first snowfall of the year!!!

Luckily Jamie and Tim embraced the weather and were able to snag a few beautiful photos in the fresh snow! Guests warmed up quickly during the reception with signature cocktails that featured the Minnesota Mule (In Honor of Tim), the Texas Mule (In honor of Jamie) and the Irish Mule (a nod to Jamie and Tim’s Norte Dame Roots 🙂 We tried to incorporate as many personal elements as we could into the celebration. Dance Floor props featuring numerous Norte Dame elements, Minnesota Apple Pies for the place cards and Personally embroidered napkins for each guest. YES, you heard me right!!! Jamie’s mother embroidered every guests initials on their own keepsake napkin!!
