My Favorite Things

I love the holidays and I wanted to start a series of posts called “My Favorite Things” to let you know a little bit about me and to show you some fun gift ideas along the way (and I like the title because it reminds me of Oprah!) So tag along for the next 7 days and hopefully you will learn a little bit about me and find some great last minute gift’s!!

My first favorite thing (and these are in no particular order.. I do not want to offend my dog) is my precious pooch Tiki! The Lasting Impressions family this year has all become dog lovers. Andrea adopted her wonderful Stella and Brooke adopted Drama this past fall! I grew up not being an animal lover. I lived on a farm and had a lot of stray cats and a few dogs, but none that I could not live without. All of that changed when Andy and I added Tiki into our lives 2 weeks after we were married. We found a great breeder and went and picked her out and the rest is history. It feels funny to be “one of those people” who is very attached to their dog.. but I am!

My favorite Things for Tiki:

  1. I never see things for Tiki and think.. I have to get that.. until I saw this “Holiday Meal” from Target. Unfortuantely it was sold out right away, but I think this is one of the cutest toys I have ever seen!
  2. Her “Aberdoggie and Fetch” Sweatshirt. As much as I could have seen myself being one of those dog owners who dresses their dogs.. I am not. My husband would not allow it and quite frankly I like to save my money for my own clothes. But last winter we realized that she was getting very cold in our house and outside in the snow, so we ran up to Lulu and Luigi and bought her this warm sweatshirt and now she runs to me when I want to put it on her. She loves it!
  3. INTERACTIVE RIPPYS – This is what Tiki is getting this year for Christmas (Dont tell her!). These dog toys have detachable arms and legs for them to get “pulled apart”.
  4. Dog Life Jacket in Pink Polka Dot – This again is something that my husband, family and firends laughed at. But there has been more than one occasion where Tiki has decided to go overboard in a boat or pool and this makes me feel a lot more secure in her floating abilities!

Thank you Kelly Brown Weddings for the family portrait

I have had the pleasure of working with Avant Decor numerous times. Elizabeth and Melissa are a wonderful dynamic duo that provide and set up ceiling decor, that includes draping, paper lanterns and much more. If you are looking for something unique for your reception do not feel like you are limited to just the traditional ceiling draping, here are a few other options that Avant Decor Provides.

Kimberly and Greg- September 11th

Kimberly and Greg were married on September 11th and I had such a pleasure working with them on their fun, pink wedding . Kimberly called me in April and told me all about her and Greg and how they were just getting started in the planning. I knew right away when I met them that they would be a wonderful couple to be able to assist. Kimberly was very organized and energetic and her and Greg had a love that I think is captured in these wonderful photos. They choose Five Event Center for their reception and incorporated many “fun details”. They had chocolate Chip cookies for the dessert in lieu of cake and had guests sign a map of the Hawaiian Islands (where they went on their honeymoon) instead of the traditional guest book. The warm sunlight in these photos makes me long for summer right now! Thank you Kimberly and Greg for letting us share a part of your planning process and big day!

Fun for Date Nights, Rehearsal Dinners or a Unique Wedding Venue

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing “Pinstripes” for myself. I have recommended this new location to a few of my brides for their rehearsal dinners and it did not disappoint. This fun new concept blends great dining with a bowling alley, bocce ball and an event space on the 2nd floor with its own private bowling alley and bocce courts. The ambiance was warm and inviting and the bowling alley was sophisticated and had an overall VIP feel. I met with Amy, the event manager, a few months ago she had given me drawings and showed me photos of what the other locations looked like, but this surpassed my expectations.

The event space can host weddings or groups up to 250 guests. Its a large space that has wonderful wooden chairs and the decor can be transformed to fit your style. Their is a deck that wraps around the building and overlooks Centennial Lakes. I think this could be a perfect location for your “fun” rehearsal dinner that pairs dinner with a great activity for your guests. Pinstripes is located next to the Container Store in Edina and is very centrally located for your guests!!

I am looking forward to summer when I can take a stroll on the deck and sit by the fire pits with a glass of wine, but until then you will find me beating my husband in bowling! For more information on booking your event at Pinstripes Contact Amy at : or (952)835-643

Something to Keep You Warm

I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving. I know that I did!! We made it to many of our relatives home and had a great time catching up! As I sift through emails and work on all of my 2011 weddings I wanted to give you a little something to keep you warm!!! Thanks Nadeau Photography for capturing these moments. More of Bethany and Joe’s wedding and more Fall 2010 weddings to come!
Happy Cyber Monday.

Being Graceful and Grateful

Every year around this time I know I write a blog about how grateful I am for my job and my life. I hope this does not get boring to the readers, but I feel that typing out your feelings is very therapeutic. With Thanksgiving around the corner and the end of the 2010 wedding season I have started to reflect upon the last year, my life and my job! I chose to title this blog “Being graceful and grateful” because I think this really incorporates my feelings about who I am, who I want to be and how I want my company to be portrayed. My job is to always be graceful, in the heat of the moment I must always act in a calm demeanor and be a problem solver. And being grateful to me means always realizing what I have and how I got here. I try to take no moments for granted, I try to remember to live everyday to the fullest! This year has provided me with another year of career bliss… even in a downward economy we were able to be involved in many wonderful weddings!
*I thank the clients that trusted me, hired me and invited me into your lives! I feel as much of a privilege to be a part of your day as you are happy to have our help.
*I thank the wonderful vendors that I have met with, worked with and had the pleasure to share in this wonderful wedding community with!
        * I thank my wonderful associates and assistants. There is no I in team.. and I will not forget that!

To celebrate Thanksgiving and the giving season.. 5% of all service fees will be donated to Toys for Tots and Adopt a Family, two organizations that we have been passionate about for years!
Thank you for your business in 2010 and your continued support and love in 2011. I am excited for a great new year!!

A New Take on Your Favorite Songs

I was at a tasting today with a client when we started to talk about ceremony music. My bride said she wanted something different and not the typical wedding songs. This reminded me of when I saw the “Today Show” Wedding this year. I heard the string quartet as the bride walked down the aisle and had goose bumps. They were playing “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys and it sounded so elegant and so well placed, after all they were in the middle of New York.. What better song to celebrate.. and what a classy way to play it!!! A few weeks ago I had a bride have her bridesmaids process down to “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. Not only are these great ways to personalize your ceremony, but I also think it puts a fresh spin on your ceremony! These ideas can easily be customized for your pianist, string quartet or guitarist. It’s amazing how everything can sound elegant when played on a string instrament. Here a few a examples that I found online:

Feeling Blessed…

I love my job… and I can say that every single day over and over again… but like I have said before, the accolades and the Thank You’s are icing on the cake. Their is noting better than getting told Thank you for a job well done. It makes all of the hard work worth it! The just launced reviews on it’s Sister-Site “” and Wedding Wire has always been a great source for viewing reviews for vendors. 2nd to the dress – the best money spent!   posted 10/28/2010
There are a lot of vendors out there who charge through the roof for day-of wedding planning/coordination, but not at Lasting Impressions. Of all the things I spent money on for my wedding, this was one of those things I believe was so worth the money. The night before the wedding, I handed all control over to Sarah and thus was able to fully enjoy my wedding. Even when the florist completely dissapointed me, Sarah gathered up my bridesmaids and made things more beautiful to the best of her ability – all without me asking. Sarah does everything in her power to make sure your wedding comes off the way you want it to and gives you the freedom to enjoy your day. She does alll of this with a smile on her face and calm but confident attitude. Look no further for your wedding planner … you’ve found the best.

Sarah is GREAT   posted 9/20/2010
When I first met Sarah one month prior to my wedding, I immediatly loved her. She has a wonderful personality, great work ethic and full of information. She totally listened to all I wanted and created the best day of itinerary. She contacted all of my vendors and made sure everything went off without a hitch. If you are looking for a day of wedding coordinator, pick Sarah!

Wonderful Wedding Day!   posted 10/26/2010
Sarah Trotter of Lasting Impressions Weddings is amazing to work with! She has great ideas, is very professional, and really helps you stay within your budget! The day we met her we knew we wanted her to help plan the wedding! Almost a year later, on my daughter’s wedding day, it was wonderful to be able to relax and enjoy the day knowing that Sarah was taking care of all the details! Everything went perfectly!

Sketches of your Wedding Dress

Do you want to feel like a celebrity?? Do you want the designer dress experience without the designer dress price tag? There are a few companies out there now that are sketching your wedding dress for a very unique keepsake that will last the test of time. Dreamlines is a great company that will sketch brides their wedding dresses based on photos that they send in. A great way to preserve your dress in a whole new way!
